The Daily Star Leadership Colloquium 2012 on "ICT inHealthcare: Ensuring Efficiency and Accountability" a two-day eventstarted on 6 January 2012 in The Daily Star Centre in the capital and ended on7 January 2012. About 350 people including experts, professional and peopleinvolved in healthcare sector from home and abroad participated in this event.D.Net was the Co-organizer of the event. Selected team from D.Net and MAMABangladesh initiative were present during the two day event and participated inall those sessions, worked as rapporteur, took part actively in exhibition andwere responsible for the confirmation of their participation for the event andregistration of participants at arrival of the event.

An exhibition also took place during the event. D.Net alsoparticipated in the exhibition. MAMA Bangladesh Initiative was highlightedduring this event. One third of the stall was dedicated to MAMA BangladeshInitiative and MAMA Bangladesh brochures were distributed among the audiences.
11 sessions were held during the two-day colloquium. DrAnanya Raihan, the Executive Director of D.Net (Development Research Network)presented as keynote speaker of one of the sessions entitled “Business modelfor e-Health and m-Health” on 7 January 2012. In his speech Dr Raihandemonstrated the model of ongoing project of m-Health in Bangladesh andprojected the ways to create business models to implement m-Health solutionsthat fit in our local context. In the first part of his speech he showed thekey features and prime model of MAMA (Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action)Bangladesh Initiative.
In the concluding plenary session Dr. Raihan presented thesummary and recommendations from all the sessions, the recommendations includedbring about a change in healthcare approach, form a working group on ICT inHealth, adopt a holistic policy for using ICT in healthcare, employ an integratedsystem for smooth exchange of data, train the frontline health workers dealingwith the stakeholders, forge public-private partnerships for the sector’sgrowth, ensure coordination to cut out repetition of work, encouragedevelopment of low-cost technologies at home.
